DeathLab, University of Columbia (US)

From the website: ‘At DeathLAB we engage life, death, and environmental consequence to strengthen social cohesion and accountability across generations. Our work focuses on sustainable and graceful mortuary options that are commensurate with the principles we honor while alive, celebrating our interconnectedness to the earth and each other, while also engaging larger issues of resource depletion, energy allocations, and toxic bioproducts produced in prevailing funerary methods. Through alternatives to cremation and earthen burial and the design of new public spaces of remembrance intertwined with everyday life, DeathLAB reimagines how we handle death, and, in turn, how we live.’ The website offers and intriguing exploration of practices and prospects for change.
