The DeathTech Research Team is a group of anthropologists, social scientists and human-computer interaction specialists based at the University of Melbourne and the University of Oxford. The team have been studying questions at the intersection of death, technology, and society for more than a decade. The team’s work to date has progressed across three major projects, funded by the Australian Research Council: Digital Commemoration (investigating commemorative practice in online media), Disposal of the Dead: Beyond Burial and Cremation (investigating alternatives to conventional body disposition technology) and The Future Cemetery (investigating the redesign of modern cemeteries to meet emerging community needs). DeathTech has additionally worked on a number of scholarly, government and public-facing outcomes, including exhibitions, conferences, and documentaries. The website includes news and project information.
