FIAT-IFTA is a worldwide organization of the funeral industry with members from over 75 countries representing every continent of the world. The organization provides advocacy, education, information, products, programs and services to help members to enhance the quality of service to bereaved families in their respective countries.
The International Council of Direction of FIAT-IFTA is made up of 45 National Members, who in turn represent funeral branches in their respective countries – in total over 30,000 companies around the world.
The organization was founded in 1970 originally as an embalming organisation and has since expanded its scope to cover all aspects of the funeral business and has grown to be a major voice within the industry. In that time, it has forged important relations with national funeral associations around the world as well as with non-funerary organisations such as the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) and others who interface with the funeral business.
FIAT-IFTA also produces a regular Funeral Heritage Report, which includes well-illustrated commentary on funeral practices around the world.
